Still working on doing a good Chickadee and a good Cardinal...........so far no luck. I record them anyway.



What can I say.............


OK, reality check........I am drawing and painting these practice pieces, simple lines, exaggerated faces to what end? That I don't know. I have to say that I prefer realism. This experiment is hard for me. I am enjoying it but to over simplify is very hard for me.

I do know that watercolour and drawing paper do not work well together. All these need ironing and are warped (in more ways than one haha)

I am trying a different approach to faces. I am trying to get away from reality, over do the eyes and proportions.

This one is based on someone elses picture I saw. I saw it and did it from memory. Actually it looks nothing like it but it was not intended to. I liked the pose is all........so this is all mine.

The flower came out OK but I was hoping to add a phrase to it, this didn't work too well.


Thia one, I am not sure where it came from but I found a set of plates at the weekend with shoes on them. I must remember to photograph them

I am thinking of the cartoon girls will make cards some day.

More from my 2nd journal........

What is creativity? What is original art?...........I find my inspiration from many things. These days I am inspired by several peoples blogs. So if my work looks familiar, then maybe you have inspired me. I never copy but I do try to emulate. If I see something that I like and would like to give it a try, then I do so. I keep it in mind as I try my own version. I have learned a lot from my fellow bloggers and I sincerely appreciate the help. I have always done too much detail and so this and previous posts are showing how I am trying to loosen up. After a period of time I will go back to doing things my own way and hopefully these experiments will have made a difference.

One blog I follow did some beautiful vegetables and so later I tried my hand at an onion.



from someone else I learned to do bee's and so now I have bees all over my journal and they got better as I went on.........this one? bleh!!



I learned to put my colour down first, then make my picture. To do it quickly rather than taking forever as I normally would and worrying about every detail. I forgot to pick out the centers, I will do that later.

I am not good at this either.......quick sketch and colour. I would normally draw in great detail and obsess over every detail.......not so this time.

Again, simple lines where I would normally go into much detail.........these practices have been very liberating for me.



Sloppy,but that's the point of the exercise.

Journal...........

Here we are on day two of the new year. I have thought about doing a journal. Not a written one but an art journal. Well, maybe with some poems too but with illustrations. I have looked at, and bought books about journaling but.........ahhhh, not exactly me. So this will be an experiment. I have done two pages so far. I am not sure where it will go. I want to experiment with things, go into different directions. I tend to do things I like and feel comfortable with. Flowers, birds and animals. I actually have not done too many things that I can honestly say I love. A few I like .....but that's not the point. People tell me my pictures are good, then say "I sure couldn't do it I cant do a stick figure".........not exactly the rule to judge me by. I only see whats wrong with the things I do. So, this is to relax me. I will start with simple things. Looks OK from a distance but............. Close up, not so much. These are all done with water soluable crayons. So that is the start......not sure where it will go but I will try to show what I am able to accomplish. They wont be great art and I will try to do some weird stuff.
