This part of my blog is all about the things I collect or the things I make myself. I love so many things, I paint and draw and want to learn oils and pastels. I knit and crochet but want to learn tatting. I embroider and can turn my hand to most things given a chance. So much still to learn and do. I live in hope of some day reading all my books, learning all I want to learn and now I am learning to blog. You will often find my original poems, poor as they are I offer them here. I also appreciate other people art and will feature things I find that I have enjoyed. That includes pictures of fairies and fantasy or maybe just anything beautiful.
I try to use my own photo's as much as possible, sometimes I borrow from the web. If I inadvertently use your picture without giving credit, please do let me know and I will either credit or remove it, I hope you will do the same with mine.
If you wish to leave comments on my blog you can do that by joining google if you do not have a blog yourself, please comment if you can I appreciate that.

30 Bidwell Hill, view from the window..............

020 This is a picture I did a long time ago. It is copied somewhat from a photo I took from my Mums bedroom window. I have done it a couple of times and I can not do it and be happy with it yet. I am showing it here at Paint Party Friday. If you have some suggestions I would be most happy. I see lots of room for improvement so you wont hurt my feelings. Sharing with Paint Party Friday. Thank you Eva and Kristin for hosting the party.

  2. Lovely watercolour, the only crit I can offer is that the perspective of the house at the back is not quite right. But I don't really think it is an issue as the painting is gorgeous.

  3. The house at the back is actually down a hill. From mums bedroom window thats all you see. To get to the front door you go down some steps. I know it looks off doesn't it. Maybe thats what I don't like. I have yet to learn the skill of not actually sticking with what I see and remaking the scene..............I know thats possible. Behind the houses at the back is a valley and then you see the hills beyond. I also do not like the hedges or garden. I should try to do it again. I appreciate your comments. Glad you like it

  4. I love your painting -the perspective is slightly off on some of the houses but, like Sharon commented, it doesn't take away from the painting - it's quite lovely! I don't care to paint buildings because it's hard for me to get the right perspective on them - but they say, practice makes perfect!

  5. I think the painting is quite beautiful and has a charming atmosphere! But If you are not happy with it, you just have to do it again... and again! ;) Happy PPF!

  6. just sketch and paint only what you see. Try it upside down - that way your right brain will work it out and it will shut out the logic of the 'downhill' house. I love it, I love the colors ~ ann at Whimsyville.

  7. Lots of good insight on perspective already given. Its hard - but worth the investment to learn it. I think your painting is lovely. Your colors are wonderful. Lucky Mom, she has such a fine view. Happy PPF

  8. Loving your beautiful scene it has a great charm about it. AnnKrier has mentioned a very good technique, which I have tried often. Sometimes it works and not for others. Its definitely worth a try. Loving the way you have laid down the colours. Enjoy the weekend. Happy PPF, Annette x

  10. I wouldn't change anything because it really does look too finished--and nicely done. You could always make one that's similar, perhaps in a different color scheme, like the nighttime view. Then you could tweak it how you see fit.

  11. There is so much to love about this painting, the sky and all the foliage especially. Painting from photos can be tricky, because the camera sometimes captures odd angles that the eye will dismiss. If you are going to give it another go, then try painting strictly from memory, or blurring the photo so that the details are obscured and just focus on the shapes.

If you want to fix this particular painting, then just slam some extra trees and bushes in front of any parts that bother you.

  12. I like the idea of doing it from memory and tweaking it.......I dont like the garden and it didn't look like that every year so I can do that different. I can do the hedges better. I did it originally a drawing and was pleased with it. Maybe a pen and ink with watercolour wash may work
    I appreciate the ideas
